Have you ever taken time out to think about what you need to do to grow your business.  To often those of us in our own businesses are so busy doing what we do, that we forget to do the thinking we need.  Thinking about what we need to do, here is my list of ten things to think about and hopefully action to get your business growing.

  1.  DO YOU KNOW WHO YOUR IDEAL CUSTOMER IS?

I know from starting a new business that I thought I knew who my ideal customer was.  It was not until I sat down and thought about it that I realised  I had not taken the time to ask myself the questions and my thinking was very fuzzy.  So what are the questions:

  • What type of customer do I currently have?
  • What age group do they fit into?
  • What occupation to they have?
  • What is the identified NEED they need to have?
  • What is the PAIN they have that needs attention?
  • What do they do for recreation?
  • Where do they “hang out” on-line or off-line (where on-line)
  • What income bracket do they fit into.

You can be sure the supermarkets know what you buy and how often!

2. BUILD YOUR ON-LINE PRESENCE

We are so lucky in the business that we are in, there is a very powerful company website.  We can do our bit to personalize it but essentially it is there and we are in business.

I personally believe that an on-line presence in terms of a website is important. A website gives you credibility and stability.  You can look for affordable options and do the necessary work to get you up on google.  If you didn’t know  already, a blog  can maximize your website and can seriously impact your presence.

Your website is only  part of it the big picture as there is Facebook; Twitter, Instagram, (to name a few) and it is recommended you have a strong presence on at least three different platforms.  So that is a website and three others!  You want to be taken seriously don’t you?

If you do it right, your other platforms bring business to your website and vice-versa.

3. YOU NEED TO BE NETWORKING

If you are like me you are networking all the time, everywhere you go.  I have a blog somewhere on networking, I will hunt it out for you.

Networking is a great use of your time with unexpected opportunities coming as a result.

4. HAVE YOU GOT YOUR SYSTEMS IN PLACE FOR FOLLOW-UP

It is really important to follow up with me.  To often people are so business networking they don’t leave time for the follow-up to progress people forward and ultimately to be your client.  It is highly recommended that we follow up as soon as possible after the meeting or event.

5. HAVE YOU GOT A CALL TO ACTION?

Is it practical to give or post samples?  You need to identify what your best call for action is and be able to implement it in a timely manner.

6.  HAVE YOU A MENTOR or UP-LINE PERSON TO SUPPORT YOU?

Everyone needs to have someone who they can go to for support.  Meet and discuss challenges and guide you as your business grows.

I have a Mastermind Group I have been working with and in.  It has proved to be great to help get clarity around where I am heading.

You need to identify the right support to suit your personality?

7.  IDENTIFY A CHARITY YOU CAN SUPPORT

Every business needs to be able to fit into the local community and support a local charity. The flow on impact of being  genuinely caring for others has a flow on effect for your business.

It must be a charity that fits your values for it to work moving forward.

8 and 9.  ASK FOR REFERRALS and TESTIMONIALS

Customers who love what you do and how you have helped them are the best way to get on-going business.  You just have to ask.  If you have delivered the results they will be more than happy to give names to you and of course will keep buying your products or using the service you prove.

10. Finally, you have to love what you do.
